Autumnal Melancholy

It is that time of the year...with leaves turning red and brown and falling off and winter is not far away that always seem to conjure up feelings of melancholy and nostalgia. There's something about the end of year, life going into hibernation that makes me feel like taking stock of my life - what I want, what I achieved and how I should move forward.

Recently inspired by Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the questions to ask one self is, which is worse and in which predicament do I find myself? Not knowing what I want, only what I don't want or Knowing exactly what I want and getting it only to realize that what I wanted isn't what I really want at all?

More bite, less yap!

Yeah! I think I have found my new motto! You know what they say, the barking dog rarely bites or all bark and no bite, and you know me, that proverb basically sums me up. I think from now on, I shall utilize the element of surprise in my interpersonal relationships. Why waste energy yapping about things when I could just zoom in on the kill? Hhmm....more substance, less talk. I like that.

p.s. I realize it makes me appear 'silence of the lambs'-ish....oh well.

The Malaysian Boozer

Matteo alerted me to this article below - funny creature and well deserving of a spot on my blog (I mean the article). So, this puts to rest 2 of the usual comments I get when I go boozing: 'Is it true that Asians can't tolerate their alcohol very well?' and 'You are so small! You probably shouldn't drink the same amount as a big guy!' Read and learn, my friends.

There we have it....

Alright, folks. It looks like a tie - equal number of persons believe that men and women are fundamentally different in terms of the communications styles and conflict resolution skills, but also because cultural and social context are heavy influences. So, the consensus is that the gender divide exists, and we will always be Tarzan and Jane.

Men from Mars, Women from Venus?

Really? I wonder...I remember when that book came out in the 90's and is all the hype....we are told by the author that men are cavemen at heart who are primitive in showing affections and when hurt, he will do what is in his instinct - defend himself and retreat back into his cave. The women, on the other hand, are some sort of descendants of the Earth Mother. Her first instinct is to nurture and heal and please everyone in the clan, mostly in over bearing mode.

I used to scoff at that idea, but recent experiences with a significant member of the opposite sex, are beginning to convince me that perhaps it is true after all...could it be that men are just obtuse creatures when it comes to emotions and women are just over emotional, hysterics who insist on fixing a non existing problem?

Take the survey below, I would love to know what my friends think!

A virgin indeed....

So, here I am, after a relatively bad week on all fronts that I find myself in the middle of the night (since my downstair neighbor has started to practice guitar again at 2AM) actually venturing into the unknown - finally creating a blog. This is virgin territory, no doubt. Sweaty palms and all.

Thanks to my friend, Nic for my blog name suggestion!

Do men and women really have different styles of communication and resolving conflict?
